Actor, writer and comedian Claire Titelman is an Andy Kaufman Award-nominated comedian based in L.A., recently named one of LA Weekly‘s “Eight L.A. Artists and Art-World Figures to Watch in 2016.” She was a roundtable regular on Chelsea Lately and has appeared on New Girl, Parks and RecreationWilfred, Veronica Mars and Cold Case. She recently booked a series regular role on TruTV’s Shady Neighbors, co-wrote an original series for Warner Bros.’s short-form studio Blue Ribbon Entertainment, and is currently developing a series based on her autobiographical solo show Filthy, which sold out its residency at experimental Los Angeles Theater Machine Project.

But enough of that, right? You want to hear what this hilarious woman’s issue is, right? Well, it has to do with people who ask for favors without coming out and actually asking for the favor. Does Claire’s problem with this relate to growing up in a narcissistic home or her own trouble asking for favors? And what does this have to do with the ex who told her he really missed how supportive she always was of him? Listen and find out.

Writer Kristen McGuiness is the author of the LA Times bestselling book 5150: The Magical Adventures of a Single Life (which was optioned by CBS Cable with Alison Brie attached to star and Original Films attached to produce and which covered a year of early sobriety where McGuiness went on a new date every week). She’s also co-written numerous books in the genres of self-help, business, psychology, travel, memoir, and dating, been published in Marie Claire, AOL, Huffington Post, and The Fix, and has appeared on The Today Show, KTLA, and in USA Today.

On the surface, her issue with sponges sounds silly, right? Yes, sponges are gross but what deeply buried issues could lurk underneath having a problem with unhygienic things used to wash dishes? Turns out plenty and all has to do with control.

Psychiatrist Dr. Josh Lichtman is a familiar voice to regular listeners, as he consistently lends his expertise to the Friday “5 Minutes on Your Issues” episodes. In case he’s new to you, know this: Dr. Lichtman is a Clinical Instructor at the UCLA School of Medicine and Clinical Supervisor at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. In addition, he was named to Los Angeles Magazine’s Super Doctoral list for 2016 and 2015 and he was a Super Doctor Rising Star for the years of 2013 and 2014.

And so the time had clearly come to turn some tables on this super doctor. In this episode, the board certified psychiatrist who combines the best practices from Western medicine and the 2600-year-old wisdom practices of Buddhism had to address his own issue: why he’s triggered by people who send a text that consists only of a question mark. To find out how a highly educated mental health specialist analyzes how a question mark text makes him question his own intelligence, you best listen to this one.

Writer and former stand-up comedian Danielle Stewart did the comedy circuit for many years—in that time, touring the country, hosting the AVN awards and appearing in  the reality show Sex Box. She’s written for Us Weekly and Life & Style Magazine, as well as MTV and E! Networks, and also hosted her own podcast,  #TheDaniStew Experience. She  is now the Managing Editor of RehabReviews.com/AfterPartyMagazine, which means I have the great pleasure of working with her on a daily basis.

While we joke in this episode that we’ve had  very few conversations that DON’T focus on our petty issues, we were able to narrow down the focus and zero in on that thing that happens when you’re talking to someone on the phone and they suddenly start talking to their kid or their barista or their sister. What does being triggered by that  have to do with having a mother with borderline personality disorder?

It’s all in the episode, folks.

Podcaster, TV talking head and writer Alison Rosen has a career that spans the coasts: she launched into the cultural stratosphere when she was on staff at Time Out New York and began appearing on the Fox News cult hit Red Eye (spoiler alert: that’s how she and I became friends). Numerous TV and writing gigs followed and then she relocated to LA and landed a coveted spot as the news girl on Adam Carolla’s podcast. She then quickly launched her own podcast, Alison Rosen is Your New Best Friend, a juggernaut that consistently lands at the top of every podcast list where she interviews comedians, writers and the like.

In this episode, Alison spills the beans about her pettiest issue—when she emails to ask someone a question and they brusquely respond, “I don’t know.” What this has to do with how comprehensively she shops for furniture and why she got pissed at her husband for not responding to her text about their dog is all revealed in the episode.

Comedian Greg Fitzsimmons has done stand-up  everywhere you’ve looked, from  The Tonight Show with Jay Leno  to  Late Show with David Letterman  to  Late Night with Conan O’Brien  to  Chelsea Lately. Then there’s his wildly successful podcast,  Fitzdog Radio, as well as his Howard 101 radio show, the eponymously titled  The Greg Fitzsimmons Show.  Let’s also talk about those appearances on @Midnight and Best Week Ever, among other shows, his acting on Lucky Louie, his  writing gigs on Ellen, Politically Incorrect, Chelsea Handler and more and his book, Dear Mrs. Fitzsimmons.

And yet, despite those myriad accomplishments, would you believe that Fitzsimmons is a guy who says he lacks confidence because believes he’s lost his mojo? Yep, that’s where we got after analyzing his issue with those sorts of overconfident dudes who give you the hand-crushing shake and slap you on the shoulder. What does this has to do with his radio personality dad and being a middle-class kid at a high school filled with the children of billionaires? It’s all in the episode, folks.

Comedian Doug Benson needs no introduction but he’s getting one anyway: the host of the mega popular podcast Doug Loves Movies, he’s also (in no particular order) hosted (live, on TV and in podcast form) the also exceedingly popular Benson Interruption, was a contestant on Last Comic Standing, was a regular on Best Week Ever and sits atop yet another pod, Getting High With Doug. Curious about that title? Well, if you’re familiar with Benson you already know this but the dude is a serious marijuana advocate and speaks openly and often about the fact that he’s often high. Now that you know that, the fact that he also starred in the  marijuana documentary Super High Me  as well as the movies Doug Dynasty, The Greatest Movie Ever Rolled and Chronic-Con: The New Dope makes perfect sense, right? (If you’re looking for more evidence that Benson’s advocacy for pot is no joke, he makes sure to only follow 420 people on Twitter at all times; if he adds someone, someone else has to go) (for the moment, I’m still safe).

Despite the chronic influx of the chronic into his system, Benson is quick to admit that he still has petty issues—namely with people (specifically a scenario that involves two businessmen) who chatter at each other on planes and interfere with his ability to watch a movie. What does this have to do with how his mom used to stand in front of the TV when he was a teenager and the fact that media may be a greater escape to him than marijuana? It’s all in the episode, people.

5 Minutes on Your Issue: People Who Post Short Recipe Videos

Listener Shawn is an authentic guy and he doesn’t post anything on Facebook that he doesn’t believe in, whether it’s about a book, a movie or food. And so he marvels at the folks who post those short recipe videos when they clearly didn’t make the dish and it would actually be impossible for any human to. My latest go-to expert, psychiatrist Josh Lichtman, analyzes why Shawn may have this issue—and what he can do about it.

Actress Mary Birdsong may be an award-winning theater actress (from her stint performing in Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me) and has also  been in the Broadway production of Hairspray but she is perhaps best known for playing Deputy Cherisha Kimball on Reno 911 and for being a former Daily Show correspondent. Then there was her role opposite George Clooney in The Descendants and more TV parts than we could count (Ben and Kate, Raising Hope, Masters of Sex and Scream Queens, to name but a few).

It is, perhaps, unsurprising that Birdsong came in with an intrinsically amusing issue. Who doesn’t giggle at least a little when someone says they have an issue with girls who don’t sit on toilet seats? But the chit chat about toilet seat covers, whether or not you can actually get an STD from a toilet seat and if the world is covered in a thin layer of feces quickly escalated into a conversation about wealth and class and what it was like to grow up in South Jersey where you marveled at the change your  best friend’s family kept in a jar. Give the episode a  listen and you may never look at squatting above a toilet seat the same again.

5 Minutes on Your Issue: Cashiers Who Don’t Make Change Correctly

Whatever you grew up doing you’re going to be paying attention to and listener Michael is no different. As someone who once manned a cash register, he’s highly aware of how folks who currently man these registers do their job. Turns out that, according to Michael, not all of them are excelling in this department. Some, in fact, are doing it wholly wrong. Josh Lichtman, a psychiatrist and the medical director at Refuge Recovery, suggests some ways for Michael to handle this.
