Over here on the You’ve Got Issues site, we focus on how you’ve got issues. That’s right, readers, we’re talking about you! With that in mind, every week we select one of you to spotlight. This week’s special guest: Nancy.

WHAT IS YOUR PETTIEST ISSUE?
I have a bunch actually – my biggest one is that I really hate waiting for anyone. Tardiness of others is a big stickler for me. If someone is 5 minutes late than what time they said they’d meet me, I get super annoyed. I feel like it’s a realistic expectation.
People who talk on a cell phone call while they are on a train or plane and in a restaurant? I have no interest in hearing your crap!
People that don’t send thank you for cards and gifts that you give to them.
People that assume you like what they are cooking when you go to their home for dinner.
People that assume since I live in Florida, I’m always available to have them visit and they like to invite themselves! (Like it’s a vacation for me!)
I am also majorly OCD, so the list is never ending there:
- I make the bed as soon as I get up
- I follow people around my house with a dish rag wiping up their mess
- I follow my dog around and clean up her water bowl mess at least 4x a day
- I move stuff around on the kitchen counter if I feel it doesn’t look symmetrical
- I unpack as soon as I arrive somewhere
- I rearrange my refrigerator by sizes of the container
WHEN DID YOU FIRST NOTICE YOU HAD IT?
I noticed most of my pet peeves/petty issues years ago – but more so the older I get the more they annoy me. But I’d say I didn’t really notice them until my mid-30s
HOW OFTEN DOES IT COME UP?
HOW LONG DOES YOUR FRUSTRATION WITH IT TEND TO LAST?
Depends on what it is, usually 20 minutes or so but sometimes weeks or months – again dependent on how much it bugged me that day.
HAS YOUR FRUSTRATION WITH THIS GOTTEN BETTER OR WORSE OVER TIME?
It’s gotten better because I’m constantly trying to work on myself and my love and tolerance of others, but it really flares up from time to time when I’m not taking care of myself emotionally or spiritually.
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS BEHIND OR UNDERNEATH IT?
I think a bunch of this stems from childhood frustrations and being raised in an alcoholic household. I have expectations from others that may be unrealistic, however, I think they are realistic. I have trust issues from childhood also and I have also found that I like to be in control of whatever is going on in my life. I think others are much more balanced in their life and these kinds of issues don’t seem to annoy them as much.
DO YOU LOVE PEANUT BUTTER?
I really like it, but I don’t love it!
