When I go into a store- let’s say Home Depot, and I am looking for a specific thing- let’s say a lightbulb. I search for the lightbulb until I am sure it’s not there. I’ll go up to an employee, tell them what I’m looking for and they go to the exact same place I just was and search for it, like I am too dense to find it by myself. It’s not there- they know it and I definitely know it, but there is this awkward back and forth, or silence. And they finally say they don’t have it! Or the employee who doesn’t know where something is but pretends they do and wastes time faking searching for something they will never find!
It’s immediate but passes quickly
Worse, I’m not as tolerant with my time
Not having enough time. This is a pet peeve, true, but minutes pass when I know that this is not going to end with me finding the item and I know it – and I feel like they are placating me by pretending to search for something that isn’t there. Why not just say ‘I don’t think we have that’…. I feel stuck in the awkward place of having to wait their charade out or just leaving and being rude.
